When the rest of the Atlantis expeditions returns to Pegasus, Cadman stays behind. General Landry has offered her a place as an explosives expert at the SGC. The job comes with a promotion to Captain and she’d be stupid not to take it.

It’s not like she has anything in particular to go back to. She enjoyed the posting while it lasted. It was an adventure, the experience of a lifetime, but now she’s ready to move on.

(There are still times when she wakes up in the middle of the night, expecting to hear the sound of the ocean.)

When Mer was thirty-nine, Jeannie found herself on a real honest-to-God spaceship, looking down on Earth with his big warm hands on her shoulders, and she thought, he did it, he found a way.
