All my shows are conspiring to break my heart this season :(
I mean to post this yesterday as a reaction, but most of my reaction was simply: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! So I decided to take the time to step back and think a little before posting.
The conclusion I arrived to was this: If only Steve had followed my very wise example, many of the bad things in this ep could have been avoided.
I'm actually beginning to think that Wo Fat might have had a hand in sending Steve all that evidence as part of the epic set-up. He must have known that once Steve started suspecting the Governor was involved in his parents' murders, there was no way he'd let it go. Seriously, it's so easy to bait him, it's almost ridiculous.
I'm very happy that Jenna lived, because I was almost a hundred percent sure that she was the one they were going to kill off. Not that I'm happy that they killed off the Governor instead, because she was a pretty awesome character too (and I'm not going to buy that she was really dirty without some a very good explanation of her motivations, Show, do you hear me?)
So... from here? It's my firm opinion that Chin Has a Plan, because no way did he just jump ship like that. Really, what I want from the next season premiere is for Chin to save the day in many awesome ways.
Concerning the Rachel/Danny thing that broke slashdom: First, let me just say that, while I do slash Steve and Danny, I'm not nearly as tinhat about the them as I am about, say, John and Rodney. Really, as long as they're best friends, I'm happy.
So, I don't mind Rachel and Danny together. They obviously still love each other and the scene where she told him about the pregnancy made my heart melt a little (Danny's happy faaaaace!) What I do mind is that they went behind Stan's back because I don't want to think that's the kind of people they are.
Anyway, judgey moral-high-horse bits aside, I can't see it work out between them this time either, despite my strong desire to see Danny cradle a teeny tiny baby. I think the scene with Rachel and Grace waiting dejectedly at the airport made it pretty clear that Danny's job will always come first. (Yep, in my headcanon, that was a big part of why they broke up the first time around.) No matter what happens, it will end with heartbreak for everyone involved.
Also, I wonder what they're going to do with the pregnancy thing, because there really are no good ways I can see it play out.
(Please no hating on Rachel in comments. Rachel is awesome and I adore her!)
Wow. This show kills me with the mood whiplash. Actually, I think one of the strengths of Castle is how it manages to pull off both the lighthearted and the tragedy, sometimes even in the same episode.
This episode was hard to watch because I knew what was going to happen. I was spoiled that there was going to be a character death in the finale and from the clues in the last ep, it was pretty clear it was going to be Cpt Montgomery. (Why else would they introduce his wife and have him promise to retire? If that wasn't a setup to kill him off, I don't know what is.)
So I was prepared, but that still didn't stop me from crying because I loved Montgomery.
Oh, and my very favourite bit of this episode was the fight between Ryan and Esposito in the alley. There was so much raw emotion in that scene.
And yeah, no. No way are they going to kill off Beckett, so that cliffhanger was a little boring, actually. If you want to end a season on a 'Are they dead or not' cliffhanger, you should pick a character who might actually die, not one who's protected by plot armour. When they shot Mozzie in White Collar, I was worried. Now? Not so much.
I need happy fluffy things now.

Date: 2011-05-18 01:15 pm (UTC)I'm glad Jenna didn't die either. And I know people aren't always smart when it comes to exes. Not to mention, Danny has had a lot of emotional upheaval in his life recently--Steve's influence, as well as the defection of Mattie, probably has him thinking, "WTF? Why not?" instead of always being the by-the-book guy.
I am very, very sorry that Grace is going to suffer from this though. :-(
Ah, Castle. Saw it coming for the same reasons you did. Thought Ryan and Esposito's reaction was *dead on* perfect. I didn't cry, I admit, perhaps because I *did* see it coming, and I resent knowing that next season, 'conflict' will be added to the precinct without someone in charge that was Castle-friendly. So simmering resentment did a lot to temper my reaction. I *didn't* see the sniper thing coming until an instant before it did--and even then, I thought Castle would push her out of the way in time--getting hit himself, perhaps. Of course, she will live. She probably didn't hear his declarations either. *sigh*
I just wish that shows would stop pulling this kind of thing. It's one thing to want to maintain some sort of dramatic tension for the audience and it is another thing to completely alter the tone of the show and take it (with little set up) into a direction that makes the viewer distance themselves emotionally. It's happening more and more with me, and producers wonder why there are problems with show loyalty?
As for Mozzie--they never really explained to me how someone shot at close range by a professional killer DID survive. You know? I'm terribly relieved he did, but still...

Date: 2011-05-18 05:25 pm (UTC)THIS! I think one of the reasons for why so many people are so angry about the Danny/Rachel thing is that Danny is supposed to be one of the heroes. He's The Good Guy and good guys don't sleep with married women. However, if we step back for a moment and let him be a flawed character instead of the paragon of virtue we want him to be, it's suddenly a lot more plausible for the guy who's still very much in love with his ex-wife to make some bad choices.
But yeah, Grace will probably get the short end of the stick no matter how it plays out :(
I don't mind a little change in my shows, but when every single show I care about decides to start killing off characters and turn their lives upside down and mess things up at the same time it gets a little much... Is it too much to ask to have at least one season finale end on a happier note? I have no faith at all in Supernatural because I know how that usually goes. I guess Criminal Minds could go either way and The Mentalist... welllll, I doubt there'll be any happy endings for Jane.
Maybe I should just give up on the genre and go for the stupid braindead sitcoms instead *g*

As for Castle, yes the Ryan Espesito scene was my fave too. Just perfectly played. I guessed it would be Montgomery who died so I was sad, but not too badly. And yes, Beckett will survive.
