I can't imagine them doing that either, only, I can't see how they can come back from the way they left that ending. I keep telling myself I shouldn't care; it's just a show, but the fact that I do care tells me how well they've written this set of characters.
Is it wrong that Mozzie was more real to me (and I think, more important to Neal) than Kate ever was?
Well, Moz has been an actual character on the show while Kate has been something for Neal to obsess about, and when that wasn't enough they fridged her so he could suffer some more, so I don't think it's wrong, (unless you count the inherent wrongness of killing off female characters just to facilitate angst for male characters.)
I kept saying to D that I thought Neal was being excessively well-adjusted for someone who lost the woman he'd made his only stupid decisions over. I couldn't decide if he was being extraordinarily self-contained or if the writers had just glossed over it.
I'm glad to see I was right to think the writing was better than that!
I just get the impression that Kate was nothing but a convenient plot device. They keep telling us how important she is/was to Neil but they don't show it. And they gave the dog more personality.
I think it would have helped me if the actress they'd chosen to play her didn't look quite so much like Elizabeth! That made it hard for me to keep them straight in my head at the very beginning!
I always had trouble believing Kate--as depicted--was the sort of woman that would make someone like Neal do some really stupid things.
When it was revealed that it was her idea to blow up the plane--that she and Neal were supposed to bail over the water--my first reaction was that Neal would not have agreed unless the pilot and crew also had a way out...
