Male obnoxious customer (MOC): Let me speak to Mr X.
Zin: I'm sorry, he's not available right now. Can I take a message and ask him to call you back?
MOC: No, I know how you womenfolk are, you can't be trusted. I already left a ton of messages and he hasn't called me.
Zin: I can assure you that he gets all his messages, but I'll be happy to remind him if you'd like.
MOC: No, no, I know you girls. I'll handle it myself. Every time I call you say you'll give him a message and you never do.
Zin (losing patience): Sorry to hear that, sir, but I promise you that we give him all his messages. If anyone hasn't, then she hasn't been doing her job right, but I seriously doubt that. We're all professionals here.
MOC: Yes, that's what I'm saying. Everyone knows how girls are. I'll get hold of him on my own, have a nice day.
Zin (clenched teeth of rage and fake voice of sugar-sweetness): You to sir, you have a really good day now and thank you so much for calling.

4. You are a very patient, kind soul. It's easy to see why Mr. & Mrs. Boss value you so much! (After MOC's second sentence above I would've responded sweetly, "Well, since I can't take a message for you, is there anything I can help you with?" & then hung up on him with a "Have a nice day!" as he sputtered. Some guys just won't believe you're not screening them & nothing you say will convince him, if Mr. X won't tell him himself.)

I know, sometimes I wonder if I'm too nice. Then again, you really can't survive this line of work if you take everything to heart and I'm actually kind of proud that I've never once hung up on anyone in anger (even though I've wanted to many many times...) But it still pisses me off. I'm really fucking good at my job and I should get some respect, damnit! What would the world look like without telephone operators?

Argh. I want to grind my teeth just listening to this. And of course, Mr. X probably tells the guy that he doesn't get his messages because he doesn't want to admit he's screening them. Double argh.

I'm sorry to hear you've had the swine flu--so many people I know have been sick recently! But from what I'm hearing, it is really knocking people for a loop and everyone is being slow to recover, so don't be too hard on yourself!

The flu itself wasn't so bad really, but I can't believe how tired I am afterwards! I think I sleepwalked my way through the entire last week...

This particular Mr X is actually one of our better clients. His office is close to ours and he comes by to drop off his mail every evening. I'm playing with the thought of telling him how his customers treat us and then see if he wants to sell them any houses...
