I which Zin cannot contain her glee...
Mar. 21st, 2008 09:59 pmYes, I am completely shallow. That shouldn't be news by now, should it? But I also have a serious thought or two. Hey, close that mouth, it does happen sometimes!
Um... I should also probably mention that the screencaps under the cut are not exactly work-safe... *whistles innocently*
Okay, a short recap of the episode. Stuff happened. Then some more stuff happened. Then there was NAKED BOYKISSING and I sort of stopped paying attention to the stuff.
Well no, not really. I appreciate this episode for other reasons than the naked boykissing. I really like how dark Torchwood is this season. I like how we get to see the things that are going on underneath the surface, that the show isn't trying to make us believe that our heroes save the world and everything's all right. I like that they show us how not everything can be fixed, that maybe not everything should be fixed. I like that we get to see the tragedies and the unhappy endings.
It's depressing, but sometimes I want the dark and depressing, the terrible reality of what the universe looks like under the shiny polished surface.
I like that Gwen gets to see this too, that she gets to understand that sometimes there's just nothing she can do to help. That by trying so hard, she ended up hurting someone instead. Gwen strikes me as the kind of person who likes to help people so she can feel better about herself - and I don't mean this as a critique of the character! It's human and we all do it. But now she gets to realise that she can't single-handedly save the world, that sometimes it's better to just leave things be and let them rest. That the best thing she can do is try to live her life.
Well, this ended up being a very serious episode reaction. I think I have to remedy that with some NAKED BOYKISSING, YES, YES, YES!!!

Bad Gwen for interrupting them!
(Yup, posting despite the so-called 'strike'. I'm not trying to make a statement, I just read about it and went 'meh'.)

Date: 2008-03-21 11:13 pm (UTC)Wow!
I don't get TW locally so I bought the first season on DVD and am doling out the episodes a little at a time to tide me over until season 2 is available, so I found your comments about season 2 really interesting. I get little shivers when I think about TW--it is already a darker program than I usually like and I am in love with it. And these pix? WOW.
Good thing I *really* understand delayed gratification...
