Show, if you do this to me again I swear I will break up with you!

I was spoiled to high heavens for this episode, and sat down fully expecting to have my heart broken again, but JESUS... Oh, Rodney!  He spent 25 years to get John back. 25 years. He gave up his job to teach college physics. He lost everything and everyone, and still found a way to fix. it. You know, Rodney, this is why I love you so much. You whine and you complain and you never fail to see the downside of every possible situation, but you always come through in the end. Even if it takes you 25 effing years.

To everyone who doesn't like Rodney: YOU'RE WRONG! DO YOU HEAR? WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! Who else would DO that? Who else would actually SUCCEED?

I also love the ratty old-man cardigan. Just saying.

So, Michael is veiny and evil. *shudders* And I hate that Teyla's baby can't be a normal baby. I hate that it has to be the key to the destruction of the galaxy. I hate that she can't just have this, that she's not allowed to be the mother she so clearly is. (Teyla will be a kick-ass mom. I can imagine her son in the schoolyard. "My mom can beat your mom up with sticks!")

Sam! Oh, Sam! Going down with her ship. And Ronon, teaming up with Todd. And than little smile just before he... WAIL! YOU CAN'T BREAK MY HEART LIKE THIS! I WILL HAVE NO HEART LEFT! AND I NEED MY HEART FOR LIVING!

I'm completely all right with Rodney/Keller by the way. They had both lost everything and they needed each other. John was gone. Ronon was dead. So yeah, they deserved the time they got together.

COME ON, WHAT THE FUCKING KIND OF FUCKING CLIFFHANGER IS THAT????? WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR MONTHS FOR SEASON 5???? AM I A SICK PERSON FOR FINDING EVEN OLD!RODNEY HOT AS HELL????? DOES ANYONE HAVE A VALIUM, PLEASE?????

And now I'm going to have to write something disgustingly fluffy to ease my heartache. I warn you, there might be puppies.

Being in um, Sweden(?), you probably didn't pick this up, but Rodney didn't teach college physics, he taught community college physics (2 year schools where you get a lower degree than at university and where people often go before they transfer to a four year school). Which for him is definitely a far less prestigious position than teaching at a university. The implication being, I think, that he needed to have less responsibility so that he could concentrate on saving John. :)

Oh, I didn't know that! We have something similar in Sweden but I didn't catch the connection. I did get that he needed less responsibility and more time for the John-saving though. Which is still sad, because he had to work on it more or less alone for 25 years. I want all versions of Rodney to be happy.

yea, teaching in a 4 year college would require politics, office hours, publishing papers, lecture tours, lab hours, etc, etc. Stuff Rodney doesn't want to devote time for, so he goes for a less time consuming route

I so completely agree with you here! I have a little group of email buddies I correspond with (outside of LJ) and they seem to be (for the most part) SG1 fans that cannot get over the fact that *their* show is over.

They *hate* Rodney. They moon over Sam. They complain over every episode. I say, if you hate Rodney, why are you watching? Don't you have ten years of episodes you can watch instead??

Yes!!! Rodney in the cardigan--especially after he and Keller were the cool yuppie couple before she became ill. And I agree with the Rodney/Keller pairing because they didn't have anyone left and who else could understand what they'd been through?

The only problem I really had with the ep was the collapsing building at the end. Don't tell me that people survived that!! But please, please, please tell me that everyone did...

I know! It seems like people either love Sam and wants her to take over everything or hate her and wants her to go away. Personally, I adore Sam almost as much as I adore Rodney, just in different ways.

I got into SGA through fanfic and I haven't yet seen the first appearence of McKay on SG-1 so I guess my first impression of Rodney was a little different from many SG-1 fans, but still - it's very clear to me how much the character has grown!

Rodney's cardigan is pure love. I think when John and Rodney get old and wrinkly together in this timeline, John is going to buy Rodney a lot of cardigans, 'cause he liked it too :-)

DH said once in an interview something to the effect that if he'd known at the time that McKay was going to be a recurring character, it wouldn't have made him such a jerk! That having been said, I honestly think in SG1 he is merely a younger, brasher version of his current self (can you *imagine* what he must have been like in his teens??)

I also think he's been tempered quite a bit through his experiences in Pegasus. I think those early eps in SG1 taught him that he wasn't infallible and how to think outside the box--so to me it is a *perfect* progression of character.

I don't have cable or satellite, so I am working my way through the series on DVD--just up to season 7 of SG1 now. And for the longest time, all my fic was set in season 1 of SGA because that was the only season I'd seen! ;-)

I like that Rodney is a jerk! If I have understood it right, the Rodney of SG-1 was a theoretician - he'd never been in the field, had never actually had to face the people whose lives his work affected. In Atlantis he lives with that every day! I really need to see those SG-1 eps soon...

I think Rodney's flaws make him very human and real in a genre where many characters are cardboard cutouts of themselves. While I frequently drool over John and Ronon and Teyla, Rodney is the character I identify with the most. I can understand his motivations. (I'm not nearly smart enough to write him though... that's why nearly all my stories are from John's POV. A way to worship Rodney without actually having to write Rodney.)

I completely agree! I love Rodney--though sometimes I think the writers are in danger of making him a caricature of himself. Sometimes I look at the population of Atlantis and wonder if we've depleted the gene pool back here on Earth of all the really attractive people. I can see my application for the expedition now: Do you have a doctorate? Yes. Are you reasonably intelligent? yes. Can you write a complete sentence? Yes. Can we see a picture? Ooops, application denied. :-)

If you have channel 6, 48 Hours (meaning, Rodney's first-ever appearance :D) airs there in little under a month... April 17, I believe. And yeah, I'm Swedish too, so that applies to you as well. :P

Also, speaking of which, Swedish SGA fans are always of the good, so hi, added you. ^^

Thanks for the tip! I think I'll obtain it through other means though, the Swedish subtitles make me break out in hives. *shudders* Plus, I only just finished watching S4 of SG-1 and I have this weird obsession with watching all the eps chronologically. I am so embarrassingly far behind...

Yeah, the subtitles are kinda awful, to say the least.

But you're not that far behind, at least not if you look at channel 6; they're airing season four right now, in fact. :P

I think channel 6 is on the second round of re-runs by now. Curiously enough, I don't think they've showed S10 yet... but that's Swedish TV for you - we only get to see the good stuff after it's several years old.

Actually, they're on the first rerun, and they did air season 10. They've been pretty good with showing entire series so far, really. (... Okay, except Angel and Scrubs.)

And yeah, definitely. Like Doctor Who. I think season 1 has aired, but no more after that.. Sigh.

Oh, they did air S10? I must've missed it. We definitely need more good sci-fi in Sweden. Sure, we recently got tv4 sci-fi, but even they don't show anything new. And people wonder why there are pirates?

And I don't even have tv4 sci-fi, because apparently they're still negotiating. I'm guessing I won't get it. And even if I do, I'll have missed the start of, well, everything.

I don't have it either but I work for Viasat so I know what they're airing. I must say the only thing that piqued my interest was the classic Doctor Who. Other than that, it's some old Andromeda and some old Babylon 5. And Red Dwarf which they, in their wisdom, have chosen to call 'Borta i rymden'. Suck.

Oh, so do I, because I've been checking their site.. kind of obsessively. Mostly because of Doctor Who. I wouldn't mind watching Andromeda, though. But whatever.

And Swedish titles are always great. Um. Not.
