Total fics written this year: 27 + a couple of wee ficlets and commentfics.
of which deathfics: 1
of which complete crack: Hmmm.... two or three, depending on whether or not your count The Very Dirty and Vaguely Disturbing Story of Why We Haven't Seen the Fleece in Pegasus
of which AU: If we count series, two. If we count stories...hm.... Six, I think. Numbers are not my friends.
of which angst: Oh dear. I think there's a little angst in most of the things I've written. Unless you count the crack of course. Then again, TVDaVDSoWWHSFiP was meant as crack but ended up riddled with angst. I'll just shut up now.
My favorite story this year (of my own): I wish I could say 'the one I'm going to write next', but that would be cheating. I think I'm going to have to say The uttermost secrets of time and space because it was so much fun to write and ended up just the way I intended it. A deathfic that is more funny than angsty while still being in character.
My best story this year: This is a hard one to answer. I try very hard to only post the good stuff (you don't want to read the stuff I throw out, I swear) but to choose the best... I think I'm going with Spatial Separation, because I really like the way it flows.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Nothing Gold Can Stay. Yeah, I know, it's not a very popular pairing and it's short and unbeta'd, but I like it! *pouts*
Most fun story:
Most sexy story: Oh dear. See, I don't find my own writing sexy. I occasionally attempt to write porn (okay, I often attempt to write porn) but I don't look at it afterwards and say to myself, 'hey, that's really hot!' But once again, I say Nothing Gold Can Stay, because it's the only sex-scene I've written that came out exactly the way I imagined it.
Story with single sexiest moment: Hustle. I find it hard to pick one scene, but the sex came out pretty good in that story.
Story with single sweetest moment: Hmmm... Another difficult one. Most of my sweet moments also tend to be a little angsty. But the most awwwwww-inspiring one has to be Common Tangent. Or possibly Graffiti, if you like a little angst with your sweetness. I'm torn.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: Um. Yeah. That has to be The Very Dirty and Vaguely Disturbing Story of Why We Haven't Seen the Fleece in Pegasus. There are no excuses for that one.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Balance was really fun to write, because I didn't actually like Teyla that much before I wrote it. But then this gangly clumsy teenaged Teyla popped into my mind and I had to write her story and when I was finished I had taken her into my heart.
Biggest disappointment: This is tough because I don't post stories I don't like. I re-write them and re-work them until I like them. Seriously, I don't even let my beta read stuff I don't feel at least half-way good about. But I think I'll have to say Ten Thousand Years of Solitude. Not because it's a bad story, but because it didn't really come out the way I wanted it. I had this image in my mind of a really brilliant story about sentient technology and undying McShep friendship. It was supposed to be THE story, the masterpiece of my fannish career, but it just wouldn't behave. Maybe because the premise was already taken, or because my English just isn't good enough to tell it the way I wanted it. Ah, well. It's not a bad story, but it could have been a lot better.
Biggest surprise: Hmmmm. It think it has to be Entangled Particles. It started out as a fic prompt for sg_15_fics and I had no idea it was going to turn into the AU series that ate my life. Seriously, I swore I wouldn't write a sequel. Now I'm sweating over the sequel to the sequel. Not to mention all the ficlets that turned up just because I love those boys so freaking much.
Hardest story to write:sga_santa fic (which has yet to be revealed). TTYoS because I had a very clear picture in my mind of how I wanted the story to turn out, and then found it very difficult to turn that picture into words. I also find it hard to write Rodney's POV (Which TTYoS is), mostly because I'm not nearly smart enough to get inside his head. As for
sga_santa ... Well, if I tell you that Cep and I renamed the challenge Secret Satan, that should give you a pretty clear picture of how much trouble I had with the story. I don't know how many times I re-wrote the damn thing. It turned out pretty good though, so at least I got some results out of all the hard work.
Easiest story to write: Entangled Particles pretty much wrote itself. I had a very clear picture of how I wanted it to turn out and then I just sat down and put it on paper. Entangled Particles is actually a good example of my very best writing trick - to write the ending first. It was the only scene I had in my head when I sat down to write. Then I wrote it, and worked my way backwards from there. Then of course I had to hand it over to Cep so she could turn my confused ramblings into coherent English... But the plot didn't give me any trouble.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: I think it has to be how you have to work on a relationship to make it last. How you can't just give up when things get tough, how you can't expect your partner to read your mind, and well... not to overthink stuff so much. And the best story to illustrate the theme is Eventual Thaw. Or possibly Spatial Separation. They both work.
Love goes to: Everyone who read my stories and liked them. Everyone who dropped a comment to let me know you liked them. Everyone who recced me (seriously, you make me squeal like a fourteen year old girl every damn time!) And of course, the_cephalopod, who is the most amazing beta in two galaxies.

Yeah, me too. I seriously lack the vocabulary to make a Rodney POV truly work.

Date: 2008-01-01 11:06 am (UTC)I think I would find Rodney easier to write if I could find the patience to actually sit down and learn at least a little science. But I got Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything for Christmas so I think I'm going to make reading it the first step towards a more science-y life.
