SGA Big Bang progress report.

Good news: The [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang story is now at 34 122 words and it's a relief that I've finally managed to make that mental transition from 'short story writer' to 'novella writer'. I can write both, but it takes some effort to change between them. At least now I know I'll be in good shape for NaNo! I think the story might end up somewhere around 50k if everything goes according to plan.

Bad news: I'm nearing the point where I'm going to need a title to sum up the story. I can't call it 'bigbang09' forever, can I? Also, my OC:s are evil and refuse to listen to me. They all want a spot in the limelight and I have to hold them off with pointed sticks or they'll take over completely.

Speaking of NaNo - I'm beginning to get e-mails wondering if I'll be returning as Municipal Liaison this year. I wonder if I am. A lot to do last year. On the other hand - no pain this year. Maybe it's time to head over to the NaNo boards and check them out. It's August now, and soon it'll be September and then October and time to sign up again, and after that NOVEMBER!

I'm one of those weird people where the title comes to me pretty early in the game--sometimes even *first*. And if the title is unworkable, then the story is at risk for premature death. I tend towards one word titles as well. It's bizzare, but I spend more time worrying about the rightness of a title than anything else. Which is just strange, I know. My way of saying that I suck at titles--they either spring from my head wearing armor, like Athena from Zeus' brow, or come to me in a bolt of lightening-illumination shortly into the writing of the piece.

What are you leaning towards?

Titles are hard! I want them to be original, something that catches the eye and makes the reader interested in the story. Sometimes the title comes first, sometimes it turns up as I'm writing and sometimes I sit with the finished story, struggling to come up with something that'll work.

For the EP-series, I have a tradition of 'sciency' titles so I'm trying to come up with something suitable. I'm thinking about something related to stress or fracture mechanics, but I need something that looks good and fits the story. I've been scouring Wikipedia for two days...

Ah. *scratches head*

I understand completely but am not particularly sciency myself, so of no real help here. :-)

yay! on your story hitting the 'long' portion :) Maybe your beta's can help with title? or are you in one of the writing groups? I'm sure it'd be difficult to come up with one without having some knowledge of the story ... though if you want to put out a detailed synopis to your flist and ask for suggestions - maybe you'll get one that will spark with you

Oh, good idea, I'll ask my support group! I think the best description of the story is 'how far can you bend John Sheppard without breaking him?' ;) Now I just need a way to say that in sciency terms...

Hah! I think the word for that would be 'tensile strength" *snort*

That is a very good way to describe him *g*
