Really nice insights here--and like everyone else, I loved the 'losing his shirt' line--just perfect.
Though I guess since I also wrote ST stories when I was twelve, technically, it is not really a new fandom for me...oh dear. I think I've just been sucked into the black hole of writing *outside* Mcshep... !!!
