I am so not in the mood for angst right now. Instead I kind of want to write a long story in which Jack and Ianto do nothing but nap and have sex. Or maybe that McShep hairdresser AU. Damn you, Big Bang![Poll #1179084][Poll #1179084]

[identity profile] lavvyan.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
In about 90% of the stories I read, I will skip the porn entirely because it bores me. That includes PWPs, which I will skim to see if there isn't a little bit of plot after all. There are maybe two, three authors who write porn I will read.

I'm really more of a plot girl. :D

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too, believe it or not. Or rather, I want the porn to fit the plot instead of the other way around. But then again, there are also times when I'm in just the mood for a quick and dirty PWP...

Hairdresser AU? It seems interesting *g*

It is! It's inspired by this place. It's a hair salon here in Norrköping ;)

When I was doing [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang last year I found there were times when I really really needed to just get away from the story and do something else. Quick McShep ficlets, or some Jack/Rodney helped to ease a little of the frustration and then I could get back to writing the Big Bang story without feeling like it had become a chore :-)

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It definitely feels like a chore right now, which is a shame because it could be a really good story if I could just work up the enthusiasm to get it done. *glares at uncooperative John & Rodney*

Hm...maybe I should just go with the porn.

*wanders off in search for porn and zombies* (Just not together 'cause that would be gross)

Brains..... *drools*

Brains are yummy!

Also, hi! How are you?

Hello!! I'm... you now what, I think I'm gonna email you rather than spam your LJ... cep xxx

Yknow, I actually really like angst in a story as long as no one dies (unless they come back) as along as theres a happy ending ;) I'm a sap, I know ;)

And the porn thing? I think its important - wait hear me out - as long as it fits the plot because I tihnk it is another way that the pair involved...ok that John and Rodney ;) can bond and show their affection and friendship...K I'm a total sucker for happy squishyness in the end ;)

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree with you - the porn should fit the plot and not the other way around. A few sex scenes are just fine, as long as they don't feel tacked on just to please the reader. (And they're kind of fun to write...)

[identity profile] mesmorizee.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I prefer happy endings... Or angsty... It depends on my mood.

When I got into slash my first thought were "Oooh, Porn! :D" I were about fifteen-sixteen and would only read nc-17 stuff. Nowdays it depends on my mood to, sometimes I'll just skip it if it isn't a PWP and I actually want to read about the sex. ;p

And having to work on only one thing is really boring. That's why some stuff takes a long time for me to finish since I take a lot of breaks to write other stuff...

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to be in the mood for porn. And in longer stories, there has to be a balance - the porn shouldn't overwhelm the plot.

And I want my endings happily angsty! Or angstily happy. Whatever. I should go to bed now :P

[identity profile] wanted-a-pony.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, how 'bout this: Rodney's day job is at Hallings Hairboutique, where his artistry is matched only by his reputation for brilliant wit & sarcasm sharp enough to send customers stumbling out crying. John is his favorite customer, a fascinating combination of incredibly sexy smart mouth & incredibly challenging hair. Something something something & the boyz become zombiehunters who run around doing.... important plotty stuff.... & they have to have lots of decadent showers ('cause of the gross zombie ick) & hot steamy sex! Afterwards Rodney plays with John's hair & they drink coffee.

I think it has potential. 'Course that's why you're the author & I am not.... ;-D

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, yes! Rodney can stab them in the eye with his scissors! Snarky genius hairdresser during the day, zombiehunter superhero at night!

Is it wrong that I actually want to write this?

[identity profile] wanted-a-pony.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
No, o'course not! Crack is never more enticing than when you have something you really really need to be distracted from. I actually thought of this as I IM'd with my friend [livejournal.com profile] lisas_secret & at the end she said, "I'd read it"—which I regard as practically approval. Something about the idea of pissy!artiste!Rodney just pleases me so... but so does vain!diva!John. It's an equal-opportunity offensive-stereotype-fest. ;-)

(And I lovelovelove [livejournal.com profile] propinquitine's suggestion of hydraulic-chair!sex! OMG the position possibilities!! ;-)

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-30 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I really want to write it now! Especially with the chair!sex. Somehow it seems to want to be more Harlequin than crack in my head though... Stupid story.

[identity profile] wanted-a-pony.livejournal.com 2008-05-01 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooooh, yesyesyesyes, brilliant!!! Harlequin SGA fic FTW!! (With chair!sex, of course. ;-)

[identity profile] propinquitine.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I love happy endings, but I pretty much define those as "ones where the OTP is intact." Even with deathfic, if one of them survives (and even ends up with someone else), I'm good so long as the dead one is firmly established as their One Troo Luv. So, I guess that's a happy ending?

And man, if the angst is getting you down, you should totally write the Halling's hairdressery story, since your Big Bang is just a big ol' ball of angst. (And awesome! Definitely, definitely awesome! Just, you know, an awesome angst-fest. :-) Then you'll have the benefit of keeping the writing juices flowing, feeling all productive and positive, and satisfying your fluffier urges before getting back into the angst mindset.

(And I'm not just saying this because I want to read some fun trying-to-balance-on-hydraulic-chairs porn. But that, too.)

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all for happy endings too. I will, however, avoid deathfic like the plague unless it's by a writer I know and trust to pull it off. And here I am, writing a deathfic. Oh joy...

The Hairdresser AU will definitely be written some day. I'll even put in some hydraulic chair!porn just for you!

[identity profile] frejasanne.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to read mostly NC-17, but it's not a conscious decision - it just seems most fic is NC-17. I pretty much always read the porny bits as well, but that's just because skipping them sort of feels like cheating xp I don't really think it's all that important, though, unless it matters to the plot, of course.

As for endings, well, it depends on my mood, and on the tone of the story. If a story is generally angsty, a super-fluffy, happy ending will probably just seem weird. But I prefer sort-of-happy (as in, happy, though some angst is fine) endings to, say, "Rock falls, everyone dies".

Mmm. Coffee.
Also, zombie hunting, definitely.

[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com 2008-04-30 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Coffee and zombie hunting go well together. Without coffee, I am a zombie...

I like sort-of-happy endings too, or at least hopeful endings. Not at all like the novel I once wrote where I killed everyone in the end. At least they managed to save the world first.

[identity profile] wanted-a-pony.livejournal.com 2008-05-01 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)

Woman, you are scary sometimes.... I'm glad we got the better drugs now!
