Allow me to pimp my new show!
Apr. 7th, 2010 01:47 pmI've been a NCIS fan for a long long time, but I didn't get around to watching NCIS: Los Angeles until last week. It's ridiculous and cheesy and completely hits all my buttons! Outlandish plots! Manpain! Awesome, gorgeous girls! Male leads who are completely and utterly gay for each other!
Spoilers under the cut...
NCIS:LA is, as you might already have figured out, an NCIS spin-off. It's about an undercover team of NCIS agents who operate out of (wait for it.....) Los Angeles! They are so super sekrit that officially they don't even exist!
Whatever. Let's go straight for the eyecandy!

This is agents Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and G Callen (Chris O'Donnell). Sam is a former Navy SEAL and a big badass teddy bear. He enjoys folding origami animals on stakeouts, running really fast when chasing suspects, jumping over cars, and worrying about G. Sam also has very nice shoulders and you all know what a sucker I am for a pair of nice shoulders. I don't know all that much about his personal life yet, but I do know that he seems to be reasonably sane and that he's head over heels in love with G. G, for his part, had a sad, sad childhood. In fact, it was so sad that he doesn't even have a first name! (The state never told him.) He grew up in a fifty billion different foster homes and has lots and lots of manpain as a result. G enjoys carrying around all his belongings in a duffle bag (because he had a sad childhood, you guys!), flirting with Sam, and pretending to be other people. Yep, because of his sad, sad childhood, G is a really good undercover agent. He can become anyone. He's even an urban legend! This is also a source of manpain. G has a grand total of three facial expressions (I don't know if this is because of his sad, sad childhood or if it's just because Chris O'Donnell is a terrible actor).
Sam and G are extremely married. It's like the writers did special research on how to capture a slash girl's interest and put it all in the show. Seriously, when even the other characters in the show comments on how married they are, you know it's true! I even think they themselves commented on it once! Also, in the backdoor pilot Legend (NCIS 6x22-23) G was shot a whole lot of times and almost died in Sam's arms.

It was very dramatic and this h/c fangirl was over herself with glee.
Over to the girls!

The first lady is Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt). She's short and awesome and fearsome and she knows everything about everyone. Hetty is my second favourite thing about the show (the first being the Epic Gay). Hetty enjoys tea and fashion. Do not get blood on her clothes. The second lady is Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah). She's gorgeous and awesome and all around badass and now has a place on my list of fictional ladies I want to boink. Kensi enjoys destroying nice cars, lipreading, and serial dating. There has also been hints about a sad angsty backstory involving a dead Marine fiancée, which is supposed to explain the serial dating. (Yes, yes, I know. I never said it was an intelligent show.)
Did I mention they're both awesome?
Supporting cast:

Okay. First, we have Nate Getz (Peter Cambor). He's an operational psychologist. He's also tall, has very big ears and annoys the hell out of me, so I'm not going to talk anymore about him. (Although it's worth to note that he's terrified of Hetty, and I think that's hilarious.) Second, we have Eric Beal (Barrett Foa), the resident tech geek. He's cute and nerdy and wears flip-flops a lot. He's also got a crush on Abby from NCIS. Be nice to Eric or he'll break your internet. Third, we have rookie agent Dom Vail. He's also cute and nerdy and keeps an alien bobblehead doll on his desk. He has stacks of books higher than he is! As of ep 1x13, he's also missing. This is the cause of much sadness and angst, especially for Sam who had been trying to turn Dom into a little mini-me.
Must-see episodes:
1x04 - Search and Destroy: In which G has an oral fixation and I completely fall in love with Kensi. Also - origami animals! And Sam tells the story about his firsttime tattoo.
1x08 - Ambush: In which G goes undercover with a militia group and Sam drives into the camp alone and unarmed to rescue him and Hetty saves them both with F-22:s.
1x12 - Past Lives: In which G has to use an old undercover identity, there is much manpain, and Sam spends the whole ep hovering like a big over-protective mama bear.
1x14 - LD50: In which G gets super lethal biological warfare stuff on his thumb and Sam tackles him into a pool to save his life, rendering them both wet.
In short - if you're after thoughtful social commentary, good consistent characterisation, intelligent and logical plots, realistic portrayal of crime fighting and... well, quality television, you should probably find another show to watch.
But if you're after Epic Gay, banter, Linda Hunt, and fun and groan-worthy plots? Yep, this is the show for you.

Date: 2010-04-07 01:02 pm (UTC)It's also my firm belief that Sam is a cuddler. And G is like the poster child of insecurity. It's because of his sad, sad childhood!
