Lately, I've found that I can only watch SPN when I'm in at least a halfway good mood, which means I save a few weeks' worth of episodes and then watch them all in one go. I have done so today, and here's what I think:
5x12 - Swap Meat.
I didn't really like this one. Usually, SPN is one of the few shows where they can put the characters in all kinds of weird and awkward situations and it won't hit my embarrassment squick. I even liked 'Changing Channels', which I expected to cringe my way trough. But this episode was the 'watch with one eye while keeping a pillow nearby to hide behind' kind. I don't know why it made me so uncomfortable. Maybe because Gary-as-Sam was so wildly out of character for Sam, or because Sam-as-Gary must have really freaked out Gary's family. I actually debated with myself whether or not I should watch it to the end, and that doesn't happen often. Sorry, not a favourite.
5x13 - The Song Remains the Same
Hey boys, hand me some of that booze for I am so joining 'Team Free Will'. I'm getting a little nervous over where the show is heading. I know it's bleak and pretty hopeless and made of angst and despair but I want a ending where the Winchesters win. At this point, I seriously doubt they'll survive, but I want them to go out fighting, being themselves. However, I got me one whumped angel, which made me pretty happy.
5x14 - My Bloody Valentine
Okay, I was warned beforehand, but I ignored the warnings thinking: 'Come on, I grew up on splatter movies, I can handle a little grossness' and watched this ep while eating dinner. Bad, bad mistake. I will never be hungry again in my life. Most people have said that the scene from the cold opening was the worst one, but I must disagree because the one in the diner trumps it times a hundred. The guy who stuck his hands into the deep fryer to grab handfuls of fries? Worst thing I have seen this year. Castiel getting hooked on hamburgers was amusing up until the part where he began eating raw hamburger meat. At least this episode gave me many many reasons to stick to my diet. Excuse me while I go throw up for a while. Oh, and Dean needs a hug, but that's old news.
So, Show. You're going to break my heart and stomp on the pieces before you're over, right? Also, I still haven't forgiven you for Ellen.
