* I'm sorry for my absence the past month. I'm also sorry for being behind on answering comments and mails. Will get to that as soon as I can. Please let me know if I missed anything important!

* NaNoWriMo is over for this year. Now I'm sitting here with a monster of a first draft for a gay superhero-ish romance that is going to need a lot of editing but might possibly turn out to be readable in the end. (97.468 words in 26 days. I don't even know...)

* I have absolutely no idea what to write for [livejournal.com profile] hc_bigbang. SGA? H50? Avengers? Leverage? Suits? I'd love to write that story where Rodney keeps getting married (to other people than John) and John keeps waiting for him to get a clue. I'd also love to write that story where Danny has to go back to Jersey to tie up loose ends and there are many epic long distance calls. Or the one where Tony actually has to deal with his alcoholism before he's allowed to be an Avenger. Or the one where Harvey decides to testify against Denis Cameron after all and paints a big target on his own back. Or the one where Parker, Hardison and Eliot fight zombies. Or the one where Steve has to grieve for things that the rest of the world only knows as ancient history. Or the one where Atlantis falls and the survivors are trapped in the Pegasus galaxy on a Traveller ship. Or the one where the reason for why Danny has been such an ass this season is because he's trying to deal with losing the baby that turned out not to be his. Or the one where... well, you get the idea. (BTW, I'm very flattered that people keep asking, but I'm not writing Entangled Particles 'verse for this challenge. I feel like I've already tortured them enough...)

- Thank you [livejournal.com profile] tarlanx for the blue spider! Happy Halloween!

- We had our first autumn concert last night and it went surprisingly well considering it was a Friday evening, the entire choir was exhausted, and we sang in an unfamiliar church with slightly weird acoustics. The second concert is on Sunday and will hopefully be even better.

- Today, I'm heading up to Leksand and the NaNoWriMo kick-off. BIG YAY! There's a fair amount of WriMos a little closer to home this year and it's good not to have to go to Stockholm to participate in events and write-ins. Not that I don't like the WriMos from the royal capital, but train travel is extremely expensive these days and the city itself makes me stressed out and unhappy. So today, I'm going to a tiny Dalecarlian town I haven't visited in ten years to meet a group of very nice people in their library. DOUBLE BIG YAY!

Speaking of NaNo - what would you rather read? A superhero coming-of-age story or a superhero/ex-supervillain gay romance? As usual, I have two plot ideas for November and I just can't decide.

Help?

Is there a kind soul who would like to beta the Danny-moves-in story? It's 10 K, PG-13 and has lots of oblivious boys and quite a lot of freaking out as well.

I will be eternally grateful!

Quick question - has Steve ever been referred to as 'princess' in canon or is that a fanon thing?

I seem to have roughly four thousand words of something that started out as a cute fluffy Danny-moves-in ficlet and then grew plot and angst and probably needs another couple of thousand words before it can be described as a story. Feelings are very complicated, apparently.

And just because I can:
Photobucket
"Babe, I know that you think you're Superman, and I hate to break this to you, but you're not actually capable of unpowered flight, okay? Please stop flapping your arms, you're embarrassing me. You can leave the shirt off, by the way."

Help?

Is there anyone who has time for a quick beta?

Danny/Steve, roughly 4500 words, NC-17. It has some kind of thinly disguised plot that only serves to get them into bed for awkward first-time sex, and Steve is the complete opposite of smooth.

I'd love to be able to have it done by tomorrow for the fandom blowout but it's not necessary.

Any takers?

Wow, this holiday just flew past! Back to work again on Monday. And I have to work three full days before Epiphany day! However will I manage?

So today I'm making chicken moussaka and watching Moonlight which is hilariously bad, but I endure because of the occasional smirk from Alex O'Loughlin.

A question I have been pondering: (not that I'm planning new fic or anything...) Which football team is Steve McGarrett likely to hate? The whole American football thing is a complete mystery to me but I understand it's a big deal in the US. (Hey, I'm Swedish. This is hockey-land. And even that is a mystery to me.)

Help?

So... I wrote something. And I haven't written anything in three months so I'm hideously out of practice. Also this is my first try at H50 fic so I'm a little nervous.

Is there a kind soul out there who would be willing to look it over for me? It's very very short, roughly 800 words of Steve and Danno being cute and domestic.

Any takers?

Dear smart people on my f-list!
When writing a story set in Victorian London in the late 19:th century, where is one most likely to fail in regards to gender/class/race/etc? I have a ton of research to do for this thing and I need somewhere to start.

Also - resources?
zinnith: (Default)
Soooo.... it's been a while since I wrote anything porny. First five people to comment with a prompt gets a ficlet with naked bits. Anything goes, though I reserve the right to interpret your prompt the way I choose.

I need a picture and I'm not sure if it exists. The picture I need, is a picture of either John Sheppard or Joe Flanigan in civvies. It should be a picture that could be taken out of the Entangled Particles boys' photo album, maybe the one Rodney framed and put on his desk. The one Rodney stares longingly at when John is working late. Sometimes he even reaches out to caress picture!John's face, but he will never, ever admit this.

They don't officially have a photo album... )

What I meant to say is this: I'm definitely not encouraging you to post tons and tons of pictures of Joe. I will definitely not love you if you do this.

And now I'm off to the NaNo kick-off. Yay!

1. [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison wrote me a gorgeous birthday story - Woodstoves and Fireplaces. Thank you! *hugs*

2. McKay/Sheppard Fan Awards, 2007

If you haven't yet voted in the McShep awards, it's time to do so! There are so many excellent stories that I wish I could vote for them all!

2,5. Thank you again for the nominations!

3. NaNoWriMo starts in a week! I have a bunch of characters and a very very vague plot which mostly consists of turning my main character into a cat. Much fun to be had! Also, I'll probably spend most of November in my NaNo-LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zinnith_nano so if you're interested in my life during NaNo, come over there and join the fun!

4. How nerdy is it that I now automatically code all my stories while I'm writing them? And speaking of code... how do you do the little hearts? I haven't been able to figure it out.

Hi gang! It's almost time for the Big Bang previews. I'm planning to make mine in interview/chat style so I have a little question for you all.

If you had the chance, what would you like to ask the famous author M.R. McKay about Hooke's Law, the story he's starring in?

[livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch is open for business and my brain is embarrassingly empty of ideas. So, almightly f-list - is there any kind of mcsmooching you'd like to see? Prompt me, please!

Progress report for [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang: 36k.

Now I'm getting to the point where I need the help from the mommies and daddies out there again. That baby I asked about a while ago? Well, she has grown. She's now a two-year-old, and I have questions concerning toddlers.

- What do they eat? Baby food? Adult food in suitable pieces?
- What kind of vocabulary do they have? Can you have a simple conversation with them? Would people other than their parents be able to understand them?
- Sleeping habits. Do they need to nap during the day? How many hours of sleep does the average two-year-old need?
- Anything else you think I need to know to write a believable toddler.

I realise that the development differs a lot from child to child (I asked my mother and it turned into a long discussion comparing me and my siblings. Apparently, they had much trouble potty training me. TMI, mum!) So any stories about your kids or kids you know or just kids in general will be extremely helpful to me. Hey, if we could build a dog together, we should be able to build a child, right?

I do not follow it, I do not go looking for it. I just read fandom_wank when bored at work.

So, can someone explain how this goes? This is what I have found out:
- Having seen TOS prior to the reboot makes me better than those who haven't.
- However, since I had to watch the reruns (due to not actually being born in the sixties) I'm a n00b trekkie and should shut my mouth.
- Equal liking for TOS and the reboot puts me somewhere in between those who prefer TOS (apparently WIN) and those who prefer the movie (apparently FAIL).
- Writing fic for the reboot is inferior to writing fic for TOS.
- Fangirls are terrible creatures and should DIAF.

Umm... am I a bad person for actually preferring reboot fandom? 'Cause I didn't encounter wank until I started wondering where all the cool old-school trekkies were hanging out. And boy do they have grudges!

Today is, as I've already said, Towel Day.

What today also is, is the anniversary of The Glorious Revolution of the Twenty-Fifth of May. I'd almost forgotten about it until I started re-reading the book a few days ago.

Sir Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite writers and human beings, and a source of much inspiration. In 2007, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. So, in Terry's honour, I'd like to drop a few links that you might want to check out.

For you Brits, I'd like to point you in the direction of the Alzheimer's Research Trust, of which Terry is a patron.

For my fellow Swedes, there's Alzheimerfonden.

And for my American friends, there's the Alzheimer's Association.

Just saying...

I wish I had the time to find the corresponding organisation for everyone on the almighty f-list, but you guys know how to use Google, right?
zinnith: (Default)
Hi f-list! If you've followed this journal lately, you've probably already noticed that I'm going crazy over Star Trek all over again. New Trek is awesome and completely made of love, and I'm trying to get my hands on Old Trek so I can have a big nostalgia fest. Star Trek was my first fandom, and the show I owe my interest in Sci-fi to.

However, when I first started watching ST, I was twelve, my English wasn't great, and I had no idea there was such a thing as fanfiction. (Which didn't stop me from writing it, of course.) So I missed the whole fanworks part of fandom, and now that I want to dive into the deep pool of Star Trek fanfic, I have no idea where to start.

So, trekkies on my f-list, what would you recommend? I like well-written, fun, twisty stories. I prefer the plots to be focused on friendship for this show, but wouldn't be opposed to good slash (preferably Kirk/McCoy). I want the characters to be in-character. I am (surprise, surprise) a big action/adventure, hurt/comfort lover, and I'm equally much in love with all the characters.

Help me, what are your favourite stories?
zinnith: (Default)
So, I'm writing a fic in which there is a baby. Not having any children myself, I know absolutely nothing about them other than that when you have one in your lap and she's smiling and gurgling at you, it might be because she's happy, but it could also be because she's in the process of pooping on your new pants.

The baby in question is about three months old. Where would she be in her development? Would she smile at strangers? Would she let a stranger hold her without fussing? What about eating and sleeping habits? I know there's a lot of general info out there, and I know all children are different, but it would really help me to get some info from real mothers and fathers.

How about baby sitting? Would you feel comfortable running off to the store for an hour or so and leave your napping child with two guys who don't have a lot of experience with small children? (And by 'two guys' I mean John and Rodney, who'd rather die than let anything happen to her...)

Then there's also the issue of breastfeeding and alcohol. If the mother used a breast pump in advance, would she be able to have a little wine with dinner? I know there's a big debate on this and I don't judge anyone - I just want to know your opinions and feelings!

So... help please? *makes puppy dog eyes and offers Entangled Particles-fic*
